Matthew Bower has been part of such great institutions as Skullflower, Total, Ax, Ascension and others, and in his latest project Sunroof! he explores a dreamier (yet still brain-frying) mode of drone bliss. As if that weren't enough, Bower's sometime-collaborator Neil Campbell also makes a rare stateside visit as part of the much-lauded, Leeds-based Vibracathedral Orchestra, another continually-productive and amazing troupe of sonic explorers. A past avalanche of recordings (many self-released) have revealed the VCO to be among the northern hemisphere's true torch-bearers of the free-rock aesthetic that say, the Dead C have held the fort down on in New Zealand. Drones, bells, acoustic instruments, cheap casio, reeds, drum circles, and sounds totally alien and unidentified have all found their way into their records. Live in the WFMU studios today, with Sunroof! in tow, no one can tell what exactly is going to happen, or who will be involved. But it will be a definite headphone experience. special event: Trouble 14 "Trouble in the Bassment" Saturday, July 26 (7pm-?) Featuring Special Live Bands: Residents: Special Guest DJ: |
